The Cavan Society of Philadephia

 
 
The Cavan Society of Philadelphia was founded on March 17, 1907. It was started as a Catholic and Benevolent Society to help Cavan people in need. It evolved to embrace all creeds and as an organization to promote Irish Culture and values particularly those of County Cavan. It also serves to keep members in touch with each other and the larger Irish community. New members are always welcome.
Each year the society sponsors many social functions.
Cavan Ball
Annual Ball held each October with music and dancing late into the night.
Parade Float
A float is entered in the St. Patrick's Day parades in Philadelphia and Springfield. A party is held following the Philadelphia Parade. For the past three years the Society has been awarded top prize in the float category. Many pictures of the floats are available in the Gallery.
Annual Cavan Golf Tournament
The golf tournament is a popular event the Cavan Sportsmen and their friends. This competition provides many prizes and raises money for the construction of the St. Patrick's Day Float.
Christmas Party
The annual Christmas party is the most popular event for the youngest Cavan descendants. The members and their families gather for a great afternoon of Celebration. The food is provided by the terrific home cooking of the Cavan Members. The day is made complete by a visit from the big man himself Santa Claus. Santa listens to the each child and gives them a gift.
